The theory of reflexology is that all the systems and organs of the whole body are mirrored or reflected in smaller peripheral areas, for example the feet or hands.
I simply work those reflected areas with my sensitive fingers, aiming to bring those areas back into balance and therefore aiding the body to work as well as it can. Reflexology very much works on an individual basis; I provide professional facilitation of your body’s own potential for well-being.
Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary health therapy that can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and well-being; by reducing stress in your life, which can be key in optimising good health and building resilience. The theory is that reflexology helps your body to restore its own natural balance.
Reflexology can help with…
I use a map of specific points on either your feet or hands to determine where stagnation is being held within your body, causing it to be out of balance and I apply pressure to these areas. Reflexology is linked to many potential benefits, here are but a few:
-
reduce stress and anxiety
-
reduce pain
-
lift mood
-
improve general well-being
-
boost the immune system
-
get over colds and bacterial infections
-
clear up sinus issues
-
recover from back problems
-
correct hormonal imbalances
-
boost fertility
-
improve digestion
-
ease arthritis pain
Usually, after a treatment your tension may be reduced, and you might feel relaxed. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of well-being improving. You may also find that other aspects improve as well; however, this happens on an individual basis.
With ever-increasing levels of stress in everyday life, it is important for you to take more responsibility for your own healthcare needs. Reflexology may be one of the ways to mitigate the stresses of modern life.
What happens when I go for a treatment?
A full medical history will be requested on, or just before your first treatment, and you will be asked to sign a consent form for treatment. This information will be kept confidential. Reflexology is a very easy therapy to receive; the most clothing that will have to be removed for a treatment to take place will be your socks and shoes.
I will then use my hands to apply pressure, to which you may feel areas of transient discomfort during the treatment, but generally the experience should be relaxing. I may recommend a course of treatments for you to gain optimum benefit.
How will I feel after a reflexology treatment?
It is useful to give feedback to me, both during and after your treatment, as this may show the response of your body to treatment. This in turn might help me to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs. After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very noticeable way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation; however, sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is usually transitory and I believe that this is part of the healing process.
A Healing Crises
Many people after receiving reflexology can experience a “healing crisis”.
A healing crisis occurs when your body tries to eliminate toxins at a faster rate than they can be disposed of. The more toxic one’s bodily systems are, the more severe the detoxification experience, or healing crisis. This reaction signifies that the reflexology treatment is working and the body is going through the process of cleaning itself of impurities, toxins and imbalances.
A healing crisis is temporary. It can occur immediately, within several days or several weeks after your reflexology treatment. Symptoms usually pass within several days but can persist for several weeks. Often the crisis will come after you have enjoyed the treatment and feel very relaxed!
A healing crisis signifies that a cleansing and purifying process is underway.
An emotional release is a typical component of most healing crises.
SYMPTOMS OF A HEALING CRISIS:
Everyone’s body is unique and may react in different ways but these are some common symptoms typical of a healing crisis:
- Dizziness and light-headedness
- Fatigue
- Low-grade fever
- Joint and muscle aches
- Muscle cramps
- Skin eruption
- Intense emotional states
- Increased sweating, urination or defecation
- Nausea and vomiting
